Hekla Elísabet Aðalsteinsdóttir
Hekla Elísabet Aðalsteinsdóttir is a stand-up comedian, screenwriter, playwright, and director. She earned a BA in Playwriting from Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2016.
Hekla has performed with the stand-up group Fyndnustu mínar since 2019, and the group has been behind several shows at the National Theatre's basement, Tjarnarbíó, and the City Theatre. The latest show by Fyndnustu mínar was part of the project Umbúðalaust at the Reykjavik City Theatre, which won the Gríman Award for “Breakthrough of the Year” that year.
Hekla was one of the writers of the TV series Jarðarförin mín (My Funeral) as well as the sequel Brúðkaupið mitt (My Wedding), which was nominated for the Edda Awards in the category of “Best Drama TV Show of the Year.” In 2020, Hekla co-directed the comedy play Fullorðin (Adults) with Marta Nordal at the Akureyri Theatre, a show that ran for two years and was later staged and performed in the National Theatre 2022-2023. In her stand-up, Hekla primarily addresses contemporary issues, politics, pop culture, relationships, and women's friendships, among other topics.
