Níels Thibaud Girerd
Níels Thibaud Girerd is an actor and stage director who graduated from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2021.
Before that, he had participated in a variety of projects as well as programming and production for television and radio. Níels worked for Morgunblaðið and 365 Media from 2010 to 2015. There, he created over 100 episodes for web and television. In 2020 to 2021, Níels produced and directed Óperuminning, an 18-episode television series that was a collaboration between the Icelandic Opera and the Icelandic National Broadcasting service – RÚV, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Icelandic Opera.
In 2015 to 2021, Níels worked as a stage manager and assistant director at the Icelandic Opera. Among notable productions are are; The Barber of Seville, Don Giovanni, La voix humaine, Tosca, Brothers and Eugene Onegin, which was nominated for “Performance of the Year” at the Icelandic Performing Arts Awards, Gríman, in 2017. In addition, Níels directed for the Icelandic Opera, the children's opera Rabbi Rafmagnsheili, composed by Þorkel Sigurbjörnsson, which was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards 2023, the contemporary opera Hrafntinna and Örlagaþræðir by Schumann and Wagner.
Since graduating from acting school, Níels has tackled diverse characters such as Napoleon in the production Níels er Napoleon and Hallgrím Pétursson in the production Jólin hans Hallgríms by Steinunn Jóhannesdóttur. His character Bolli Könnuson Le Stell from the children's TV-show Stundin Okkar has also been a regular guest of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Níels has also directed a number of diverse projects. The most notable are the musicals Singing in the rain, Mary Poppins and West Side Story which were performed at Víðistaðaskóli in the years 2022 - 2025. Íslandsklukkan by Halldór Kiljan Laxness in Austurbæjarskóli 2024 and Bugsy Malone a collaboration project of the Musical Department of the Reykjavík Singing School and the National Theatre of Iceland.
Níels has also acted for television and films, including the American film The Finnish Line, Hæ Gosi and Stundin okkar from 2021 – 2024, which was nominated in the “Children's and Youth Content of the Year” category at Iceland television and film awards 2022.
