Ylja was founded by Guðný Gígja Skjaldardóttir and Bjartey Sveinsdóttir in 2008. The band has earned well-deserved attention from music lovers for their innovative folk music in recent years and has several nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards. Both of them have, among other things, been nominated for "Female Artist of the Year" and are known for their dreamy guitar playing that beautifully complements their gentle voices.
